                                    <div class="element-text">On October 28, 1992, a ceremony was held to dedicate the Little River Turnpike historic marker in Annandale Tollhouse Park.  Pictured from left to right are: Helen Winter and Arif Hodzic, members of the Annandale Central Business District Planning Committee, Inc. Board of Directors; Supervisor Christine R. Trapnell, Mason District; Supervisor Sharon Bulova, Braddock District; Eileen J. Garnett, Chairman, and Gordon Cole, Vice Chairman, of the Annandale Central Business District Planning Committee Inc. Annandale Tollhouse Park is located at the intersection of Little River Turnpike and Annandale Road.</div>

With the support of the Mason and Annandale (today Braddock) District supervisors, the Annandale Beautification Committee formed and subsequently expanded into the Annandale Revitalization Committee, to improve downtown Annandale.</div>

                                    <div class="element-text">Jean Packard opens the new office of the Fairfax County Water Authority, circa 1960. Ms. Packard began a career of public service  as an activist to  improve delivery of county services to her community.  She subsequently served as president of the Federation of Citizens Associations and later as chair of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. </div>

She comments on the positive effects of immigration on the growth of the community and the development of community spirit over the years.                                     <div class="element-text">Val Vahouny and her family moved to a new home in the original Kings Park development in 1963. Like many families in the 1950s, she and her husband first lived in an apartment until their growing family required more space. She talks about family and community life, daily activities, and celebrations, Valerie Vahouny remembers Braddock Road as a two-lane   street with no traffic lights and a half-hour commute into the District of Columbia where her husband worked.   She talks about physical growth and neighborhood changes over time. </div>

                                    <div class="element-text">While in the U. S. Navy in 1979, Robert Mizer was stationed at the Pentagon.  He moved his family into the Ravensworth area of the Braddock District and remained. A volunteer fire fighter, he talks about the history of the Burke Volunteer Fire Department, how it operates, and area-wide fire fighting organizations.</div>

                                    <div class="element-text">Laura McDowall grew up in Northern Virginia as a child in the post-World War II era. When she and her husband moved to the Braddock District during the 1960s, she volunteered with the county&#039;s first anti-poverty agency and continued her involvement in primary health care provision to the community.  She later served for 12 years on the Fairfax County School Board and has continued her career of public service in a variety of volunteer positions.</div>
