Oral History: Paul Kincheloe

Paul Kincheloe grew up on a dairy farm on Burke Road his father bought in the early 1940s. The farm was sold and developed into the Lake Braddock community about 1970. His boyhood home, Greenfield, still stands on Burke Road. Now an attorney, he talks about his memories of growing up on a working dairy farm, his childhood chores, education, and recreation.

Robert Hunt moved to the Kings Park neighborhood in the late 1950s. He became president of the Kings Park Civic Association and later, a member of the Fairfax County School Board. He discusses family life, community growth, and his memories of world events.

Al Hlavin served as Assistant Superintendent for Facilities Services in the Fairfax County Public Schools. He discusses challenges, achievements, and problems associated with building schools, including construction of Terra Centre Elementary School, a partially underground energy-efficient facility. He moved to the county in 1974.

Robin Hirst grew up among influential people when her father, Omer Hirst, served as a Virginia State Legislator. Her family's farm near Burke has been subdivided and developed, but the unique house they built, Hirst House, remains. Bill Hellwig's family moved to Fairfax County in 1952. His father, a civil engineer, conducted studies for developers on the feasibility of land tracts for development, including the preliminary engineering work for most of Springfield. Bill Hellwig joined the Park Authority after college graduation and by 2005 had worked for the Authority for 33 years. He discusses the development of the parks and their programs.
